About Me

Hello I am Jordan Bean, a teacher in training for technology and applied science (TAS), specializing in design and tech, food tech and industrial technology.

As a teacher in training specializing in Food Technology, Industrial Technology, and Design & Technology, I have cultivated a deep passion for hands-on learning and creative problem-solving. My journey thus far has equipped me with a wide range of practical skills, including recipe design and analysis, manufacturing processes, and the development of detailed portfolios to track project progress and student growth. These experiences have strengthened my belief in the importance of combining theory with practical application, allowing students to engage with the curriculum in meaningful and innovative ways.

In Food Technology, I have had the opportunity to design and analyze various recipes, with a particular focus on creating healthier options. One of the key projects I undertook was developing a low glycemic index (GI) muffin recipe. This involved not only understanding the nutritional science behind the ingredients but also testing and refining the recipe to balance flavor, texture, and health benefits. This process taught me how to guide students in considering both creativity and health-consciousness when developing their culinary projects.

My experience in Industrial Technology has been equally rewarding. A standout project involved fabricating a footstool, which allowed me to apply critical skills in manufacturing, materials selection, and safety protocols. I was able to guide students through the design process, from concept development and drafting plans to using various tools and equipment to bring their designs to life. This project demonstrated the importance of technical precision, attention to detail, and problem-solving in real-world applications.

Additionally, I have gained valuable experience in creating portfolios to document and assess student progress in both food and industrial design. These portfolios serve as a reflective tool, helping students track their learning journey, refine their work, and think critically about their creative processes.

Through these diverse practical experiences, I am dedicated to fostering a classroom environment that emphasizes inquiry-based learning, where students are encouraged to think critically, experiment, and engage actively with both the theoretical and practical aspects of design and technology.
